Garden Delights and Movie Nights

Are you hungry for a change?

  • Want to make new friends or hang out with old friends?
  • Want to learn how to cook with garden produce?
  • What to learn from a film and discussion?

Then sign up for a Garden Delights and Movie Night!

Change your food habits, change the world.

It's easy as 1,2,3,4!

1. Pick a recipe that uses fresh, locally grown ingredients.
2. Pick a film from our film library.
3. Invite your friends and neighbors.
4. Cook, teach, eat, laugh, watch, discuss, enjoy!

1. The Food

Pick one or more recipes that you can teach your guests.  Or recruit one or more guests who can teach you!  Your recipes shold use fresh produce that is locally available and in season.  Consider salads, casseroles, stir frys, desserts, veggies, beverages, etc.  If you need inspiration, you can buy a copy of "From Asparagus to Zucchini: a Guide to Cooking Farm-Fresh, Seasonal Produce" from the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition (MACSAC) for just $18.77.  Click here to order.

2. The Film

Click here and choose a film from our collection about food and farming.  We have HomeGrown, FRESH, The New Intervale, FOOD, INC., The Power of Community, The End of Suburbia, and A Farm for the Future.  There is a rental fee:  see movie list for details.

3. The Friends

Invite your friends, your neighbors (who could become friends), or a combination of both. (Click here to download a sample invitation.)  This is a wonderful way to create the neighborly bonds that are a very important part of creating a vibrant local economy!

4. The Fun

The day of the dinner, if you want, you and your friends can visit a farm, garden, or farmers market to pick or buy the produce for your meal.*  This can be a learning experience in itself!

Everyone brings ingredients, not finished dishes, to this potluck.  Cooking together is way more fun that cooking alone, and you will learn new dishes that you never thought you could master.

After enjoying your meal, watch the film and then discuss it. What have you learned that you want to put into practice?  What new skills and resources have you found?

*Fitchburg Fields volunteers who have given 30+ hours can get vegetables from our garden.  No more than 1 pound per guest, and no more than 10 pounds total.
