Get Involved
Thanks for your interest in getting involved with Fitchburg
Fields!
There are so many things you can do to help us "sow the
seeds of self-reliance."
1. Join our email
list. The "regular" list
gets just one email per month: the "volunteer" list usually gets one
or two more. 2. Take a workshop. 3. Volunteer in the garden. 4. Volunteer on a
committee – even long distance! 5. Contribute
to our current operations and/or to our Land Purchase Fund.
6. Apply for a spring internship or Apply for a summer internship
Join our email
list
Every month we send out an e-newsletter with a garden
update, news of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, and lovely
pictures of the garden, workshops, and gatherings. It's your way to stay in touch, and by
forwarding it to friends you can help us spread the word and meet new
supporters.
We promise just to send one e-newsletter a month, so don't
worry about spam. And we never sell or
share your name with anyone.
But if you select "Get Involved" on the form
below, you'll get one or two additional emails per month, offering more ways
that you can help, such as bringing vegetable scraps to our compost piles,
handing out flyers at a festival, or posting flyers for a Fitchburg Fields
event.

Take a workshop
Learn how to grow seeds under lights, make a bentwood
trellis, cook for one day and eat healthy food for seven, make dilly beans, and
more! We need students, and you need to
learn food survival skills, so check out our current offerings here and
sign up today!
Remember, when workshops fill they are closed. Though we occasionally run a popular workshop
a second time, there is no guarantee of that.
So avoid disappointment by signing up early right here.
Volunteer in the garden
It takes hundreds of volunteer hours to plant, maintain, and
harvest a 4000 sq. ft. garden, so please sign up for an occasional or regular
shift here. When the garden is
open, there is always a staff person or lead volunteer present to offer free
instruction to new gardeners. Kids are
most welcome as long as you supervise them.
There are never any chemical fertilizers or pesticides used, so you
don't have to worry about toxics.
Benefits to garden volunteers include: new gardening
knowledge, meeting friendly people, exercise and fresh air in a lovely spot,
knowing that you are helping to feed hungry people, and (occasionally) broken
vegetables.
Volunteer on a
committee
If you can come to one meeting per month, and do assignments
in between, you can be a valued member of one of our committees. Even if you live far away, the Internet makes
it possible to participate. Choose from
any of these committees, or ask for a computer based project, and you can
become a part of Fitchburg Fields' success! Click here.
Education Committee
Help with planning, logistics and teaching of our workshops
in organic gardening (and someday farming), food preservation, and cooking
healthy food on a budget. We need more
volunteer teachers for the workshops (food instructors must be credentialed),
and lots of helpers too.
Publicity and
Marketing Committee
Help with getting the word out about our workshops, events,
garden, and accomplishments. If you have
experience (or a willingness to learn) in print media, radio, television,
graphic art, Powerpoint, social networking, Internet fundraising or videography, we need you!
Fundraising Committee
Help research and write grants, manage sales of promotional
items and other items, and more, to support our current work and our future
land purchase.
Events Committee
Help with planning, logistics, execution and evaluation of
events such as potlucks, film showings, booths at conferences and farmers
markets, and our Annual Harvest Dinner.
Arts and Culture
Committee
Plan and create art and culture to be a part of all we
do. We welcome graphic art, banners, poetry,
songs, music, theatre, photography, videos, volunteer awards, formal garden
design, sculpture for the garden, and more.
Contribute
A large percentage of our operating funds come from large
and small donations. We can't do this
without community support, so please send a contribution today, whether your community is Fitchburg, Dane County, or
the community of folks who care about creating local, organic food systems.
We are currently running a very small version of what we
hope to run someday when we purchase land, hopefully the 250 acres that you can
see at "Our Vision." In
order to buy land, we will need champions to step forward and provide the
forward-looking leadership that such visionary efforts always require. If you are such a person, or know one, please
contact us.
